My Tinnitus Diary: Tinnitus and Food

I have become convinced that my tinnitus is definitely food related and the reason for this is that I find the volume increases and decreases with various food items. It’s not always consistent from one day to the next, but the underlying variation persists. Here’s what’s happened the last couple of days.

10/25/2022 – Tinnitus was low on arising around 1 to 2, according to my notes. Before breakfast I wrote that Tinnitus was near zero on my scale. For breakfast, I ate:

2 eggs over easy (Eggland’s Best Organic Cage Free)

1 Organic Tomato medium sized, chopped

10 Red Bell Pepper slices, organic

1 slice of toast – using MY BREAD – the recipe is in the recipe section

2 T Organic Peanut Butter

1 Banana, crushed and mixed with the Peanut Butter

8 oz Grass Fed Milk with

8 oz Grass Fed Kefir mixed into the milk.

I did not eat all of this and the left overs were used as snacks later in the afternoon. This gave me approximately 39 grams of protein, my goals is 30 per meal for two meals or 60-65 grams per day.

I took my supplements: 2 Berberine, 1 Benfotamine, 1 B-Vitamin sublingual – high dosages of B vitamins, 1 Choline and Inositol, 1 Niacinamide, and 2 D3 capsules. Tinnitus stayed low all morning.

I drank a cup of My Spice Tea; here’s how I make it: cover the bottom of a coffee filter with a sprinkling of Ceylon Cinnamon, atop of that sprinkle a light layer of ground clove, ginger, and cardamom. Run 1-19 oz bottle of spring water through the coffee maker and it creates a nice tea.

Late morning, I travelled to Mineola for lunch with a friend. We travelled further North to an Italian restaurant that makes it’s own tomato sauce. The special was Lasagna, fresh bread, and salad – we both ate that. The salad was a nice butter lettuce with balsamic vinegar dressing; real butter for the bread. The Lasagna, was mostly pasta and cheese – not much in the way of tomato sauce. I drank water with lemon. My Tinnitus level was still low after lunch – a good sign I thought.

That night for dinner, I made a Hamburger using Rudi’s Hamburger Rolls, 1 Grass-fed burger that includes cruciferous vegetables, 1 Cup Grass-fed Milk with 1 C Grass-fed Kefir. This provided 36 grams of protein.

I took my usual supplements (including 1500 mg GABA overnight) and my prescription drugs and slept well.

10/26/2022 Tinnitus was a 4 (3.5 to 4) on awaking. This is alarming, but I was expecting a rise in Tinnitus from the Lasagna yesterday.

In an attempt to lower Tinnitus, I ate 2 T ground chia seed with 6 T bottled spring water. This has lowered the volume before but it did not this morning.

I didn’t eat anything more until lunch with my sister. We at Pizza Hut Supreme Pizza – 2 slices each. Tinnitus remained high. No real surprise there.

But I was growing anxious and did poorly (70%) on an open book Mid-term that I barely passed – for tax prep course I’m taking. Both my cousin and my sister said, “That’s unusual.” It was – my previous grades were 100% and 90%. Since this was the second time I’d taken the Mid-term, the first grade was 69%, and I got my answers from IRS publications, I wondered if I’d taken too much GABA. Since this test just represents a hurdle in the course and doesn’t impact the course grade, I really didn’t care. I was way more concerned about the Tinnitus volume which was still around 4.

So, I turned to my new favorite Tinnitus control food: sweet potatoes. I ate 1 packet of organic Sweet Potato and Beets, baby food 0 – 6 months. I sometimes buy baby food because it’s so easy to digest and healthy. And quick. I noticed a slight change in Tinnitus and being otherwise out of sweet potato, I opted for a drink with Beet powder. Still in need of food, I went to the freezer and snacked on frozen kale. Tinnitus was still hovering around 4 on my scale. DRAT!!

For dinner, I warmed the kale with 2 eggs over easy, 5 Brazil nuts, and 3 dates for dessert. I also had a 16-oz glass of water with a cup of frozen blueberries in it.

Before bed, I added two Ginger tea bags over the Spice Tea mix and added 1 bottle of spring water. I was still hungry so I at oats:

1 Cup of Spring Water

1/2 Cup Organic Oats

Microwaved for 3 minutes, than add:

1/2 T Grass fed Butter (Kerry Gold)

2 T Grass fed Cream

1/4 C organic wild blueberries

1/4 C organic walnuts

A Sprinkling of Ceylon Cinnamon

I took my supplements but no GABA, and prescriptions and went to bed. Tinnitus was still at about 4. Then a miracle occurred.

10/27/2022 This morning my hearing is very clear and my Tinnitus is at a very low volume – almost none – so hovering around 1 on my scale. YEA! I made a fresh pot of Ginger Tea over my Spice Mix and am sipping that as I write this. I’m pretty much afraid to eat anything, but I’ll probably eat eggs and kale later. With the tea, Tinnitus is around 1 – 2.5 but has a high pitch easily discernable even at a low volume. Usually the high pitch indicates a lowering of the sound, so I’m waiting for that. . .

10/28/2022

One of the most sinister aspects of Tinnitus is that you never know what will set it off and often what works one day to quiet it, doesn’t work the next. Of course everyday your system is a little different. Yesterday, with my Tinnitus near zero on my scale, I tested baked Russet potatoes and this morning my Tinnitus volume is back between 3 – 4. I hate Tinnitus and want to be rid of it forever but I’m trying to “love” into it so I can see what this is trying to teach me – and possibly others.

I hope this all passes quickly. I’ll write more later.
